NHL - The National Hockey League today unveiled the architectural rendering of the 2014 Coors Light Stadium Series™ outdoor NHL game at Dodger Stadium between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks on . ET. The rendering illustrates the final transformation of iconic Dodger Stadium for the historic NHL game. The Kings and Ducks will face-off on the NHL-regulation size ice rink located in the infield. Platinum recording artist Jordin Sparks will sing the U.S. national anthem while singer/songwriter John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting will perform during the second intermission on the stage located at home plate. That stage will feature a special design created by Los Angeles art legend Mister Cartoon and children from the Los Angeles-based nonprofit, Para Los Niños. The stage in right field will feature special pre-game and first intermission performances from legendary rock band and 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees KISS. Local beach volleyball players will play throughout the game on the beach volleyball sand court located in left field. Centerfield will feature palm streets in a nod to the game’s Southern California setting. Participants from the Ducks and Kings’ NHL Street hockey programs will scrimmage on the street hockey rink adjacent to the NHL rink. The Ducks and Kings logos will share the spotlight in centerfield. A sand sculpture of the Kings logo will be embedded in the beach volleyball sand court while the Ducks logo will be featured in the bottom of a pond in center right field
The NHL implemented major changes during the offseason, and one of the biggest upgrades for the league was the addition of four outdoor games to be played at open-air arenas—dubbed the Stadium Series.
While the Winter Classic and Heritage Classic are basically the same concept, the Stadium Series will take the outdoor games to markets that wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this feat a few years agoWe are honored to be selected to participate in the NHL's Stadium Series,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “Playing our rival Kings at historic Dodger Stadium will be a terrific showcase event for our sport. A Southern California outdoor hockey game in a picturesque setting will be an exciting, unique experience, and we look forward to being a part of it.
Los Angeles has now lost 10 of its last 14 games.
With the Ducks' depth at forward (3.4 goals per game), enough defensive protection (allowing just 2.4 goals per game) and a pair of outstanding goaltenders, the current lineup is dangerous in every aspect of the game.
Whether it’s outdoors or not, Anaheim should win this game.
